Dear Prospective Med-COR Student,

You are invited to apply for the USC Medical Counseling, Organizing, and Recruiting program. Med-COR is a comprehensive academic enrichment program that helps prepare high school students from disadvantaged backgrounds for college admission and, ultimately, for professional careers in the healthcare field.
IMPORTANT: Only students enrolled at our partner high schools are currently eligible to apply to Med-COR.

Med-COR:

  1. Provides academic enrichment and support (supplemental tutoring, SAT prep, etc.) to help students become more academically competitive for admission to top ranked colleges and universities.
  2. Provides students with mentors and role models to motivate them towards academic excellence.
  3. Exposes students to various health careers and provides guidance regarding the requirements for entry into these health professions.
  4. Seeks to enhance students’ self-esteem and build confidence in their academics.
  5. Helps students gain an understanding of the health care needs and problems of underserved communities through group discussions and dialogue with healthcare professionals.

Med-COR requires a time commitment of two (2) Saturdays each month, from September through May. Students must be available to meet on the scheduled Saturdays from 9:00am to 1:00pm. The Saturday-school meetings take place at USC’s Main Campus, known as University Park Campus. Students are responsible for their own transportation to campus.
IMPORTANT: In Fall 2021, Med-COR will resume in-person at USC’s University Park Campus. Students are highly encouraged to be vaccinated. Per USC policy, students must wear a mask on campus (in the classroom and outdoors).

Admission to Med-COR is competitive. In order to be considered for the Med-COR program, you must submit all the components of the application:

  1. Survey of Educational Interests
  2. A 250-word personal essay that describes your interest in Med-COR

Mr. Francisco Rodriguez, Program Advisor for Med-COR, will visit our partner schools in August 2022 and host information and recruitment sessions!

If you are interested in pursuing a career in the healthcare field, you are strongly encouraged to apply. If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Francisco Rodriguez, program advisor for the Med-COR program, at frodrigu@usc.edu.
