A Med-COR facilitator is a tutor in the core subjects of math, science, and English for high school students in the program. The facilitator’s primary responsibility is to manage a small group of students in a classroom-like setting, helping them with their overall academic achievement. The facilitator provides academic support and instruction, helps clarify difficult concepts, and answers questions in ways that lead to a better understanding of the material. Facilitators are required to work from 8:00am to 2:00pm on designated Saturdays (Med-COR meeting dates) from August through May of the academic year. Saturday academic enrichment sessions take place at USC’s University Park Campus (downtown main campus).
In addition to their instructional duties, facilitators also serve as mentors and role models to Med-COR students, providing encouragement and guidance as students apply to and prepare to attend college.
Eligibility requirements to become a facilitator:
- Must be at least a freshman in college
- Pass a proficiency test in a designated subject area (English, math, or science)
- Have strong communication and organizational skills
- Complete a background screening
If you are interested in becoming a facilitator, please contact Med-COR program advisor Francisco Rodriguez at (323) 442-2388 or frodrigu@usc.edu.
