USC News: Read about how the Med-COR mentor program makes an impact on students’ lives.
Apply to become a Med-COR Mentor!
Application Deadline: Friday, September 8, 2023
The Med-COR Mentor Program connects students from USC’s graduate health programs with talented and promising high school students to encourage and support them in their pursuit of higher education and careers in health. Utilizing the group mentoring model, mentors serve as long-term role models for a small cohort of Med-COR students, providing inspiration, advice, and guidance to help them achieve their goals.
Expected mentor commitment:
- Mentors will be paired with a group of five mentees with whom they will work on a long-term basis (ideally, throughout their mentees’ time in the Med-COR program).
- Mentors must participate in five to six official Med-COR group mentoring activities during the school year.
- Mentors must cultivate an on-going supportive relationship with their mentees through regular communication and check-ins.
- IMPORTANT: For the 2023-24 academic year, mentoring sessions will take place in-person, on the University Park Campus (UPC) on designated Saturdays.
Criteria to become a Med-COR mentor:
- Must be enrolled as a student in a USC graduate health profession program (medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, PA, PT, OT, etc.).
- Must have a heart for serving the community and want to make a positive impact on the lives of young people.
- Must pass a background check and complete USC’s Protecting Minors Training.
